Q5: Do you provide part-time care?
A5: We only enroll full-time children. Tuition is a weekly rate that reserves your spot in our program. This means care is available for your child all open hours.
Q6: Are you open on snow days?
A6: Yes! We are open on snow days and all snow days are pajama days!
Q7: Do you accept child care assistance payments?
Q8: Yes, we will work with you and the program assisting you. If the assistance program does not pay the full amount of weekly tuition, families are responsible for the difference.
Q8: Do you provide refunds?
A8: No, we do not provide refunds. Exceptions to this rule are if we have to close the program due to unforeseen circumstances not already scheduled as closure days OR if you have paid a deposit and the child has not yet attended care. Once the child has begun attending the program the deposit is no longer refundable.
Q9: What is your child to staff ratio?
A9: We are licensed for a ratio of 7 children to 1 staff, but often our ratios are smaller than that.
Q10: What is your policy on outdoor play and physical activity?
A10: We go out of doors everyday regardless of weather as long as the temperature or windchill is above zero. We also provide large motor equipment and activities inside such as a climbing structure, balance boards and beam, dance and yoga activities, and more.
Q11: What holidays do you close for?
A11: We close New Years Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, July 3rd and 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Thursday and Friday, the full week of Christmas (Sunday-Saturday).
Q12: What is your approach to discipline?
A12: All children deserve adults who are intentionally prepared to handle challenging behavior. In turn, our children will learn to manage challenging emotions and social situations. I truly feel this is a fundamental role of childcare. Childcare providers are tasked with helping our smallest family members to learn about their mind, body, feelings, self-control, and independence. They are also busy learning about others, learning empathy, and how we can fit into a family or community in a harmonious way. Most of my behavior management techniques follow the Conscious Discipline approach. If you’re interested in reading more about Conscious Discipline.
Our discipline policy starts with prevention. Setting children up for success is the first step in managing challenging behaviors. We do this a few different ways. First is ensuring they eat well, sleep well, feel safe and loved, get plenty of exercise, and are mentally stimulated. Second is taking full advantage of their instinct to copy those around them. The power of modeling behavior, verbiage, tone, and body language is often underestimated. We incorporate desired habits into our daily routine while we play, eat, read, nap, everything. Incorporating impulse control, problem solving, and empathy into daily play also helps build their of skills to tap into when they encounter a problem.
Boundaries are established early and discussed often. When we have crossed a boundary, they are reinforced with kind words and gentle intervention. Rules are kept to a minimum and will include actions we take out of safety and respect for ourselves, other people, and property.
If there are major behavioral concerns for a child, we will collaborate with the family and their doctor.
